Learn To Forage Through Spring, Summer And Autumn
Three books covering 45 edible and medicinal wild plants, organised by the season you're most likely to find them.
When you're new to foraging, the difficulty is rarely finding plants.
The difficulty is knowing which ones are worth learning first, how to recognise them, and what to look for as the year changes.
The Eatweeds Seasonal Foraging Collection gives you a simple way to begin.
Each book focuses on 15 plants from one season.
You learn the plants you're most likely to encounter in spring, then summer, then autumn.
Across the three books, you'll be introduced to 45 useful wild plants growing in Britain and Ireland.
Why 15 Plants Per Season?
I've deliberately kept each book to 15 plants.
You don't need to learn hundreds of species to start foraging.
It is far more useful to become familiar with a smaller number of plants that you can recognise confidently and encounter regularly.
As the year moves on, the plants change.
The collection follows that rhythm.
You learn what is around you now, then move on when the season changes.
Over time, the plants become familiar rather than something you have to keep looking up.
Forage In Spring
15 wild plants to learn during March, April and May.
Spring is one of the easiest times to begin learning wild plants.
Fresh leaves and shoots appear everywhere, often before surrounding vegetation becomes dense.
The book includes plants such as:
- Alexanders
- Garlic Mustard
- Cleavers
- Stinging Nettle
- Ramsons
- Ground Elder
Along with nine other spring plants.
For each plant you'll learn how to recognise it, which parts are used, when to gather it, and how it has traditionally been used for food and medicine.
You'll also find the folklore, history and cultural stories connected with the plants.
Forage In Summer
15 wild plants to learn during June, July and August.
By summer, many wild plants are at their most visible.
Hedgerows thicken, flowers appear and species that were easy to overlook earlier in the year become much easier to recognise.
The book includes:
- Bramble
- Burdock
- Chickweed
- Elder
- Fat Hen
- Mugwort
- Mallow
Along with other useful summer plants.
As with the spring book, the focus is practical identification, traditional uses, harvesting and plant history.
Forage In Autumn
15 wild plants to learn during September, October and November.
Autumn brings a different kind of foraging.
Fruits ripen, nuts appear and hedgerows become full of species that are at their most useful at this time of year.
The book includes:
- Beech
- Blackthorn
- Hawthorn
- Oak
- Rosehip
Along with ten other autumn plants.
You'll learn how to identify and use them, when to gather them, and the ways they have featured in food, medicine, folklore and everyday life.

About Robin Harford
I've been teaching people about wild plants since 2008.
My work has appeared in The Guardian, The Times and BBC Good Food, and my foraging courses have been recognised by BBC Countryfile.
I'm also the author of Edible and Medicinal Wild Plants of Britain and Ireland, which has sold more than 65,000 copies.
My aim with these books is simple: to help you become familiar with the plants growing around you.
The more plants you recognise, the more interesting an ordinary walk becomes.
You start to notice what is appearing, what is flowering, what is fruiting and what has changed since the week before.
That kind of knowledge builds gradually.
These three books give you a practical place to start.
