Build a Year-Round Relationship with Britain's Wild Plants
Five books. Forty-five plants. A complete foundation in the edible and medicinal plants of the UK.
You've walked past them a thousand times.
Wild Garlic carpeting the woodland floor in March. Elder heavy with blossom in June. Sloes turning blue-black on the hedgerow in October.
You know they're useful. You know people once knew what to do with them. But somewhere between then and now, that knowledge got lost.
These books bring it back.
What's covered in this collection
How to identify 45 of Britain's most useful wild plants with confidence. From Wild Garlic and Alexanders in spring to Sloe and Rosehip in autumn
The traditional food and medicinal uses of each plant, rooted in centuries of practice and backed by modern understanding
When to harvest, how to prepare, and what to watch out for. Practical knowledge you can use immediately
The stories, folklore, and history that connect these plants to the people who've lived here before us
A season-by-season approach that helps you learn plants as they appear, building knowledge throughout the year
More than 80 recipes for bringing wild plants into the kitchen, from everyday dishes to preserves, drinks, desserts and more
What makes this different
Most foraging guides treat wild plants as ingredients, things to identify, harvest, and use.
These books do something more. They help you build relationships with plants.
Not in some vague, mystical way, but through understanding their patterns, their uses, and their place in the landscape.
I'm Robin Harford. I've spent over 20 years walking Britain's hedgerows, woods, and coastlines, learning traditional plant knowledge and testing it in practice.
Not as a hobby or a weekend interest, but as a full-time ethnobotanical researcher and professional forager.
I've taught thousands of people to forage. I've worked with medical herbalists, Ayurvedic practitioners, and traditional plant knowledge holders across four continents.
My books have sold over 65,000 copies and my courses are listed at the top of BBC Countryfile's 'Best foraging courses in the UK.'
These books aren't theory. They're field-tested knowledge. What actually works when you're standing in front of a plant, trying to decide if it's the right one, harvested at the right time, for the right purpose.
They exist because plant knowledge belongs to everyone. It should be passed on, shared, and used.

That's the complete seasonal trilogy + the field guide + the cookbook. A full year of foraging knowledge in one place.
These really are all lovely books, with beautiful photos, and fascinating yet truly useful content. I wish I’d ordered them sooner! I’d already got an older copy of one, which is a really nice book but it was definitely worth buying the updated full colour version.
I love the combination of practical recipes along with the plant's history, and the addition of photos makes them even nicer to use. I’ve always loved wild flowers and am really enjoying learning so much about them. It is so important that plant knowledge is remembered and used and this is the perfect way.
I have got into foraging in the last few years and really enjoy the fruits of my labours. My medical background makes me aware of the limits of pharmaceuticals. Robin's book - pictured and the seasonal ones that go with it really allow me to increase my knowledge and enhance my foraging.
I will passing on the Edible and Medicinal plants to a friend as I already have one.
Robin has lived and survivied foraging so his experience is practical not just theory. This makes all the difference. I enjoy the mythology around the plants too.
I have just started reading ‘Autumn’ from the four books I ordered as a set and I so far I highly recommend it and I find Robin’s knowledge and explanations on plants and their uses really fantastic. Great to have recipes too, so I am delighted that I bought all four together!
I'd been eyeing these books for a while before I realised I could buy them as a set.
What lovely books they are! Clear photos, concise descriptions, beautiful histories... I am pretty knowledgeable when it comes to foraging but there's always room for improvement and there's plenty of improvement here for me. Thank you for providing these wonderful books.
I absolutely love these books and I have already started teaching my granddaughters who are just seven and four years old.
These are so much nicer than similar books because they really help you to form a deeper understanding of the plants and in turn of nature as a whole.
I really cannot praise these books enough.
Really lovely books, full of detailed information and photos of edible / medicinal plants to forage in every season, along with safety info, recipes and details of historical uses for each plant.
What a Fantastic collection of books!
So interesting.....
Best out there I would say...
Hand held perfect size books to take out & about. Ruck sack or handbag they just fit & not super heavy nore to big.
Worth every penny.....
We are very pleased.....
Many thanks.
I found the books very informative clear and helpful. I already have an interest in eating wild things. As children we used to nibble hawthorn leaves when they were new. I had a salad yesterday of lettuce with wild garlic, sorrel and dandelion topped with olive oil. I added some new mint tips. It was so fresh and green and delicious; really felt like a pick-me-up after the dreary winter.
I look forward to trying more recipes and including more wild nutricious foods in my diet. Sorrel soup is next on my list.
Thank you for the helpful guides.
I am so excited to have received these books and the 4 book bundle is an absolute bargain. The books feel lovely in your hands, are a fantastic size for those foraging excursions and are filled with amazing full colour, high definition photography of the subjects through various stages of growth where applicable. The text itself is full of thoughtful insights, historical references, recipes and notes on medicinal uses as well as the all important cautions.
Having followed Robin for some years through his 'Eat Weeds' site and newsletter, he shares knowledge with heart, generosity and gratitude to nature and these books embody that spirt.
I bought the books for my wife who has a keen interest in homeopathic health (as do I TBH but she's more active than me) ... I'm an ecologist so very interested in what can be harvested from all manner of rural settings.
We both think the books are excellent - well-written, concise and easy to follow with regard to identifying plants - much easier, especially for the uninitiated, than using a conventional "key".
Thoroughly recommend.
2 family members are very pleased with their books and looking forward to getting outside and foraging over the coming year. My son immediately turned to 'Alexanders' and said 'So that was what that plant was at the beach, the one we couldn't identify!' - invaluable details here on identification and what to do with plants - a real eye-opener. I'll try to remember to report back in a year or so. We're new to this.
Bought as a present for my other half. He absolutely loves the set. He says they are very informative, beautifully illustrated and just what he needs to get back out to forage in a couple of months. Would definitely recommend 👌
Love all the books amazing information and descriptions even the images.
I am forever in the books and looking forward to spring and being 💯 able to identify plants
Thank You
