But only for those who know where to look.
While the days shorten and most people see the land settling into sleep, nature is still giving - generously. Hidden in hedgerows, tucked beneath turning leaves, are plants that have nourished and healed for generations. Most people walk past them every day.
In Forage In Autumn, you'll be guided through the fifteen most useful wild edible and medicinal plants of September, October and November. You will discover:
This isn't nostalgia. It's a way forward.
When we eat wild food, we don't just nourish ourselves. We change our chemistry. We rewire the way we see and relate to the world around us. This book isn't about romanticised myths or ancient foragers. It's about remembering what's still alive. It's about rekindling your own wildness. It's about taking the intelligence of the land into your body, slowly, seasonally, and on your own terms.
So that the next time you step outside in autumn, you won't just see fallen leaves. You'll see food. You'll see medicine. You'll see home.

Forage in Autumn: The Food and Medicine of Britain’s Wild Plants
Delighted to leave a review for Robin Herford's book Edible and Medicinal Wild Plants of Britain and Ireland. I am a herbology student at the RGBE and this book will be so useful not just for my course work but will be of real interest to anyone who has a love of wild flowers and foraging too. The book is well set out and easy to read. Plants are listed by common name, botanical name and their use in food and medicine. I also recently purchased Forage in Autumn and this book focuses on the top 15 wild plants and trees which are good for foraging. The book is so well researched and and contains lots of interesting historical information about each plant. It is also beautifully illustrated with full colour photographs and lots of recipes. Very happy with both these purchases.

Thank you Robin. Really enjoying digesting this book. The in depth info has been fascinating. I really enjoyed “edible and medicinal plants of Britain” and this is a great additional volume. Thank you for your work. I will be making Beech tea and toffee. I will be sharing my new green knowledge.

Forage in Autumn: The Food and Medicine of Britain’s Wild Plants
I have all 4 books published by Mr Harford, it all started with 'edible and Medicinal Wild plants of Britain and Ireland'. I have since purchased all 3 of Mr Harford's subsequent publications, Foraging in Spring, Summer, Autumn. These books are a real boon for identifying a great many of the plant I encounter. The Photography and resulting pictures are clear and extremely informative, giving many identification samples, as is the description and uses of said plants. There are a good many recipes for included, in many cases a history is also included. I highly recommend these books to both the novice and also to those with a more acute understanding of the art of Foraging as these publications are a must have for any library.

Forage in Autumn: The Food and Medicine of Britain’s Wild Plants
This is difficult because I have purchased the whole set of books for a close friend who shares my love of foraging. I haven’t actually used this book yet in the “wild “ because it’s intended as a gift for Christmas. Looking through the pages I am very impressed by the artwork and how clearly the plants are identified and how it is possible to communicate with them. I don’t feel that I can review any more of the books in this series for the reasons stated

Such a lovely book, compact but so informative and insightful. I love the colour photos of the plants, it's handier having them in the book than just on the guide.

I came across Robin's books because of Alexanders. Every time I walk through the local churchyard, I see these beautiful green plants that smell like celery and think, could these be food? So when I found eatweeds, I was very excited to see that there is a whole book series about just that. So now I've gathered seeds from the Alexanders to plant in the local allotment project and my own garden thanks to Robin's wonderful books and website. I'm excited to discover a few more plants that grow locally and am carrying the Forage in Spring book everywhere with me. Beautifully illustrated with interesting histories of each plant. I bought every book in the series. Thank you Robin. This is a review for all your books. My only request is that rose petals make a delicious tea and can be boiled in sugar and water to make a delicious syrup for desserts which could be added to the Eat Weeds Cookbook. Happy foraging!

Forage in Autumn: The Food and Medicine of Britain’s Wild Plants
I bought it for my son. He is a techy and works too hard. His way of unwinding is nature. Eat Weeds is easy for him to dip into for half an hour to chill. And it’s with him while he wanders around the wild getting familiar with the terrain and plants there. He was also thrilled with the spring and autumn foraging books. Now all he needs is summer foraging.

Forage in Autumn: The Food and Medicine of Britain’s Wild Plants
For those new to investigating and falling in love with the natural world, then this and Robin's other foraging books are important, excellent guides and 'proper' educational tools. So much knowledge/wisdom of old has been lost or suppressed. Mother Nature's wondrous gifts need to remain in our lives, our consciousness, our interest, our respect and our love ... Nicky X

And again, another great book from Robin. Very informative, with useful photos, interesting plant details and history, and recipes. I would have saved money if I had bought all the books at once, but would have missed out on in-season foraging!

Forage in Autumn: The Food and Medicine of Britain’s Wild Plants
Full of masses of interesting and useful nuggets, amazing recipes and so much more! As a Herbalist, I still find the medicinal notes really insightful, as it refers back in to history, herbals, mythology and more recent uses too, including safety notes. I recommend it to some of my herbal clients. Clearly set out, covering botany, an overview, food, recipes, medicine and has colour pics! What more could you ask for? I have all Robin`s other books too, all help to savour and explore the natural world.

Forage in Autumn: The Food and Medicine of Britain’s Wild Plants
This book has been so incredibly helpful to me as a new forager and I have been able to now put a name to the wild plants and flowers that I walk past. The book is very well laid out with many colour photos - which really helps as lots of plants look similar, like cow parsley and hemlock. Now I can tell the difference. My son has borrowed my Forage in Autumn to take on a hike, as he found it very useful and informative too. Well worth the purchase!

Forage in Autumn: The Food and Medicine of Britain’s Wild Plants
What a brilliant well written book with good clear photographs and I really like the recipes this my 4th book from eatweeds and I have learned so much from them, when I walk along the towpath from my narrowboat I really do love to see the different plants and now I watch the different phases of their life they have become more like close friends that I look forward to meeting again in the spring. These books have really changed my way of seeing our great countryside. I would recommend them to everyone who likes nature. I now walk and eat plants and berries I see along the towpath and know that what I eat is safe due to the photographs and text in these books from eatweeds.
