Five minutes. One plant. Thirty days.

A practice for rebuilding your relationship with the living world.

Something has gone quiet between you and plants.

You walk past them every day. You eat them. You might even grow them. But somewhere along the way, the relationship became one-sided.

You take. They give. You stopped noticing long ago.

This isn't a personal failing. It's what happens when the world teaches you to look at plants as resources, not as presences.

As things to use, not beings to be with.

Domei is a way back to something older. Not mystical. Not difficult. Just attention, given daily, to the plant already in front of you.

What's covered in this course

  • How to be present with a plant, not just observant of it
  • Simple practices to quiet the analytical mind and open the sensing body
  • Ways to develop genuine kinship with the other-than-human world through sustained attention
  • Techniques drawn from Western contemplative tradition, adapted for plant relationship
  • How to carry the practice through difficult periods without losing the thread
  • How to work with any plant you encounter, named or unnamed

What makes this different

Most plant education begins with identification. Names, properties, uses.

There is nothing wrong with that. But it leaves something out.

Knowing what a plant is called does not mean you know the plant.

Presence is different from information.

Relationship is different from recognition.

Domei begins before the name.

It asks you to slow down and give your full attention to a single plant, using your body and breath rather than your analytical mind.

Not to study it. To be with it.

The shift that follows, when it comes, is not dramatic.

It is quiet, and it is real.

Robin Harford developed Domei from 35 years of daily engagement with the other-than-human world, drawing on Western contemplative traditions and more than two decades of ethnobotanical fieldwork across four continents.

He noticed that people who learned plant names still felt disconnected.

The knowledge was there. The relationship was not.

Domei addresses that gap.

This is not a spiritual practice. There are no beliefs required, no worldview to adopt, no lineage, no guru.

It works with the plant outside your window as readily as it works in a forest.

About Robin Harford

Robin Harford is an ethnobotanical researcher and professional forager with over 35 years of daily engagement with the other-than-human world.

He forages for his daily meals and for one year lived nomadically across Britain, following the plants as they came into season, and building a relationship with them that goes well beyond identification.

He is the founder of Eatweeds and the author of Edible and Medicinal Wild Plants of Britain and Ireland, which has sold over 65,000 copies.

He has taught thousands of people to forage and build relationships with plants, and his courses have been recognised by BBC Countryfile.

He developed Domei because he noticed something missing in plant education, including his own.

People learned what plants were called. They learned what they could do with them. They rarely learned presence.

Domei addresses that.
